Stretch marks are scars. When the skin can’t follow rapid body growth, the tissue tears and creates narrow stripes which are uneven in colour. Everybody can develop them, although it more commonly affects women. Tummy, hips, thighs and breasts are the most common areas where marks appear.

There are three major factors that play significant role in pregnancy stretch marks:

  1. Hydration

  2. Moisturization

  3. Genetics

1. HYDRATATION: Drinking enough water and applying a topical moisturizer helps a lot. The skin becomes more elastic and doesn’t tear easily. Eight glasses of water is a standard, but there is also a way to calculate the exact amount using your body weight. CLICK HERE to find out more about this under Tricks & Tips section.

2. MOISTURIZATION: Which product to use and how often? We recommend “non-water based” products. Lotions have water as it’s main ingredient; when used in formulas, water is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria to grow. That’s why manufacturers use strong preservatives to prevent this from happening. We recommend using a stretch mark cream twice per day.

3. GENETICS: This is something that you can’t control, but knowing that you are more prone to stretch marks should be a good reminder to focus on hydratation and moisturization during pregnancy.
